🌿 Transforming Outdoor Spaces Into Tranquil Retreats

Most landscaping companies focus on traditional yard work—but few truly understand how to integrate calming water features that elevate a property into a peaceful sanctuary. That’s where Design Thinking Landscaping LLC stands apart.

With over 20 years of landscaping expertise on properties ranging from three-quarter acre estates to expansive one-acre lots, and more than a decade specializing in aquatic features such as koi ponds, fountains, and tranquil water installations, founder Philip Bardasian brings unmatched knowledge and artistry to every project.

Today, as more homeowners live in smaller subdivision lots, thoughtful design becomes even more essential. Philip’s approach ensures that every outdoor space—no matter the size—offers the scenery, serenity, and sense of peace that homeowners crave.

How and why did this company start?

*

In April 2025, the founder of Design Thinking Landscaping LLC, Philip Bardasian, moved to Southwest Missouri from Northwest Arkansas. Although he has been doing landscaping for over two decades and pond, fountain and general aquatic landscaping for over a decade, he intended to slow down as he got older and hire a local landscaping company to bring his vision to life in his new home with a blank canvas having zero landscaping.

*

Seemed like a simple thing, right? It was not sadly! First, he contacted a local nursery and had their landscaping team come out to quote just the two back corners of the very small subdivision yard. With zero detail and not a scenario-based cost, he received a quote for $12k to $15k. Now it would be one thing to say, well if we do this it will be $13k, but if we do this, it will be $15k. No, it was a $3k cost swing with no details of the end project plan. Now he would have had much more respect for them if they just came out and said, “We don’t want your business”. So, doing it himself, it cost about $1,200 plus his time to do one corner, but it was exactly what he wanted using blocks, not settling for railroad ties (as suggested by the guy quoting the job) which would have been easier, cheaper and eventually rot out. So, for less than the $3k cost swing, he completed the right corner.

*

Thinking he would try this one more time for the other corner, he decided to get new quotes from other local landscapers and well, this is how that turned out. Two returned his call and said they would be out and never followed up. The third one did come out and looked at the job but never provided a quote. During the walk around, the landscaper was told the other corner had to be done by the homeowner as the only quote he had was extremely high and no one else came out. The landscaper asked if he could take pictures of the right side as he was impressed by the work. The goal was to do something similar, but not the same. Also informing the landscaper this was something that needed to be done soon or once again the homeowner would end up doing it himself. So, after about a month, the landscaper texted asking if the work is still wanting to be done so he could provide a quote. The reply was no, it was already finished by the homeowner.

*

The issue is, most landscapers are lawn service companies who do landscaping at the end of the lawn mowing season.  So, trying to get landscaping work in the spring or summer is not easy. Also, in almost every case, the company talks about not being able to start at the agreed time because they had to finish up another job. Or, while they are working on your project, they have zero communication and just leave their equipment in your yard for weeks (really happen).  Are they going to show up today? Did they get in an accident and die? What happened to them?  All frustrating to the homeowner. So, to help homeowners get what they want, when they want it and have zero frustrsion during the process, founder Philip Bardasian started Design Thinking Landscaping LLC.
